MATH/CS SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS

Every year, the Department recognizes outstanding students and graduates. Several scholarships are available. A complete list of all awards and scholarships can be found below, as well as a list of previous award recipients.

Gerald Samson Mathematics Scholarship
This scholarship is named after former LSSU mathematics professor Gerald Samson.
Value: Variable — non-renewable
Criteria: merit based
Curriculum: computer and mathematical sciences
Selected by: recommendation of the Mathematics Department

Franklin Otis Award
This scholarship is named after former LSSU mathematics professor Franklin Otis.
Value: variable — non-renewable
Criteria: earned at least 26 LSSU credits; minimum 2.5 GPA overall and minimum 3.0 GPA in computer science and mathematics courses; must be a resident of Michigan, Wisconsin or Ontario at time of application. Applicants should send letter of application addressing their qualifi cations to the designated mathematics faculty member the first week of October.

Selected by: recommendation of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department.

Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science Scholarship
This scholarship was created in 2006 by the faculty of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science as a tool to retain highly qualified students at LSSU.
Value: up to $1200 — non-renewable
Criteria: Recipients must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. The scholarship recipient must maintain a good academic standing and be in compliance with all policies as listed in the current Student Conduct Code.
Curriculum: mathematics or computer science course of study or pursuing a degree in math education
Selected by: Recommendation by the faculty of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department.
